One of the first (and biggest!) decisions you’ll make while planning your wedding is choosing when to say “I do.” Every season has its own charm, from blooming spring flowers to cozy winter celebrations, so how do you decide which one is right for you?
The truth is, there isn’t one “perfect” season—only the perfect season for your vision. Let’s break down what each one has to offer!
Love is in full bloom for a spring season wedding! As the weather starts to warm up and flowers begin to bloom, it’s easy to see why so many couples fall in love with this season. Spring offers the perfect mix of fresh greenery, colorful gardens, and mild temperatures, creating a naturally romantic backdrop for your big day.

If you’ve always dreamed of exchanging vows surrounded by blooming flowers or saying “I do” in a beautiful garden, spring might be the perfect fit for you. The softer color palettes and fresh landscapes also photograph beautifully, giving your wedding gallery a light, airy feel.
Of course, spring weather can be a little unpredictable. One day might be sunny and 70 degrees, while the next brings a passing rain shower. If you’re planning an outdoor celebration, having a backup plan can help you enjoy the day no matter what Mother Nature has in store. And honestly? A little spring rain can make for some incredibly romantic photos–cue the clear umbrellas!

Sunshine, golden sunsets, and long summer nights… what’s not to love? The summer season is one of the most popular times of year to get married, and it’s easy to see why. The days are longer, the weather is perfect for outdoor celebrations, and everything feels vibrant and full of life.
Whether you’re dreaming of a waterfront ceremony, an outdoor reception, or dancing under twinkling string lights, summer creates the perfect setting for a joyful celebration. One of my favorite parts about summer weddings is the extended daylight—it gives us plenty of time to capture everything from getting ready to those glowing golden hour portraits just before sunset.
The biggest thing to keep in mind? Summer temperatures can get pretty warm, especially for outdoor ceremonies and formal attire. Staying hydrated, providing shade when possible, and building a little extra time into your timeline for cooling off can make all the difference. And depending on where you’re getting married, it’s always smart to have a backup plan in case a quick summer thunderstorm decides to make an appearance!
Summer is perfect for couples who:
Crisp air, changing colors, and beautiful foliage paint a gorgeous backdrop for any celebration. It’s no surprise that fall is one of the most popular wedding seasons! If you’ve been dreaming of a day filled with warm colors and golden light, fall might just be your perfect match.

One of the biggest perks of a fall wedding is the weather. The cooler temperatures make outdoor ceremonies and photos much more comfortable, and nature does a lot of the decorating for you! The changing leaves create a stunning backdrop, while rich tones of burgundy, rust, and emerald add so much warmth and romance to your day.
Since fall is such a sought after wedding season, venues tend to book up quickly. If you have your heart set on a fall wedding, it’s never too early to start planning! It’s also worth keeping in mind that the days become shorter so working with your photographer to build a timeline around the earlier sunset will help ensure you have plenty of natural light for your photos.
Fall is perfect for couples who:

There is something so magical about a winter wedding. From candlelit receptions to elegant black-tie celebrations, winter has a way of making every moment feel extra romantic. If you’ve always envisioned a wedding that feels intimate, timeless, and a little magical, this chilly season might be calling your name.
One of the biggest perks of getting married in the winter season is that venues often have greater availability giving you a tad bit more flexibility when choosing your date. Plus, you have the option to plan your wedding around the holidays making for a setting with beautiful seasonal decor.
Of course, winter weddings come with a few things to plan for. The days are shorter, so your timeline may need to be pushed up a bit earlier to make the most of the natural light. Or, you could consider doing a first look to get a few pictures done before the ceremony. Depending on where you’re getting married, it’s also a good idea to have a backup plan in case of snow or icy weather. But don’t let that scare you! A fresh snowfall or cozy indoor venue can make for some truly breathtaking photos.
Winter is perfect for couples who:
There is no one-size-fits-all answer! Each season brings its own kind of beauty and the best choice ultimately comes down to the vision you have for your wedding day. Here in Baltimore, Maryland, each season offers something unique: from sunflower fields to snowfall ridges. As a wedding photographer, one of my favorite things is seeing how each season tells a different story. Spring feels fresh, summer is full of energy, fall brings warmth, and winter creates such an elegant atmosphere.
There is no “bad” time to get married. With thoughtful planning and a wedding photographer who knows how to make the most of every season, your wedding photos will be timeless no matter the month on the calendar. If you’re looking for a photographer to do just that, I’d love to work with you!
