Not every wedding needs a big venue, a packed guest list, or a year of planning. Sometimes, you just want to marry your person, celebrate with the people closest to you, and enjoy a day that feels like you.
A courthouse wedding can be just as meaningful as a traditional wedding day. And just because you’re keeping things simple doesn’t mean you have to skip the little details that make the day memorable.
If you’re planning a courthouse wedding in Baltimore or somewhere else in Maryland, here are a few ways to make the experience feel personal, intentional, and worth remembering.

One of my favorite things about smaller weddings is how much freedom you have with your outfit. You don’t have to follow traditional bridal expectations unless you want to!
Maybe that’s a classic white dress and heels, a tailored suit, a fun mini dress, or something colorful that you’ve been waiting for an excuse to wear. You could even change into a second outfit for dinner or portraits afterward.
The best part? You get to choose something that fits your style without worrying about matching a particular venue or dress code.
And don’t forget the details. Your shoes, jewelry, flowers, and even your perfume can become part of the story of your day.

A bouquet is a simple way to make your courthouse wedding feel a little more celebratory. It doesn’t have to be an elaborate arrangement or something you ordered months in advance.
A small bouquet from a local florist, a few stems you picked out yourself, or flowers in your favorite colors can add a personal touch. You could also incorporate a boutonniere, a meaningful accessory, or another detail that makes the day feel special.
And my favorite part? These little things photograph beautifully. They give you something to hold during portraits and can make for some great candid and detail shots, too.

One of the best things about a courthouse wedding is that you’re not tied to a traditional wedding venue. Once the ceremony is over, you can take advantage of the surrounding area and turn the rest of your day into something memorable.
If you’re getting married in Baltimore, think about the kind of setting you love. Maybe it’s the historic architecture downtown, the waterfront, a quiet city street, or a neighborhood that means something to the two of you.
You don’t need to spend hours taking photos or travel between five different locations. Even setting aside 20–30 minutes for portraits can give you a beautiful collection of images that captures both the excitement of getting married and the personality of your relationship.
And if being in front of a camera feels a little awkward, don’t worry. You don’t need to know how to pose. I’ll help guide you when you need it, and we’ll leave plenty of room for you to simply enjoy being together. But if you’re looking for a few additional posing tips, check out this blog.

A courthouse ceremony doesn’t mean you have to skip the celebration. You get to decide what that celebration looks like.
You could make a reservation at your favorite restaurant, invite family and friends to a backyard dinner, grab drinks at a favorite spot, or plan a little gathering at home.
You could even turn the day into a full experience: get ready together, exchange vows, explore the city, and finish with dinner somewhere special.
If you’re inviting loved ones, consider having your photographer document a few of those moments, too. The hugs after the ceremony, your family’s reactions, and everyone celebrating can become some of the most meaningful images from the day.

It’s easy to think of a courthouse wedding as something that starts with the ceremony and ends when you walk out of the building. But some of the sweetest moments happen outside that window.
It’s the way you look at each other while getting ready, the excitement of walking into the courthouse, the first few minutes after you’ve officially become married, or the laughter that happens when you’re finally able to relax.
You don’t need a packed timeline to have a meaningful wedding day. In fact, leaving a little breathing room can make the experience feel even more special.
These are the moments I love documenting most. You don’t have to perform for the camera or make everything look perfect. You just get to be present, and I’ll be there to capture the pieces you’ll want to remember.
Here’s your reminder that there’s no single right way to get married.
You can wear the dress, or you can wear jeans; You can invite your entire family or keep the ceremony just between the two of you; You can plan a beautiful dinner afterward or celebrate with takeout on the couch.
Your wedding day should reflect your relationship, not a list of expectations or traditions. If photography matters to you, make room for it in a way that feels natural. You don’t need a full-day package or a traditional wedding timeline to have photographs that tell a beautiful story.
Getting married doesn’t have to be extravagant in order to be meaningful. My job is to help you capture it in a way that’s authentic to you.
Whether you’re planning a quick courthouse ceremony, an intimate celebration with family, or a city-hall wedding followed by portraits around Baltimore, your day deserves to be remembered.
My priority is always to make you feel comfortable enough to enjoy your wedding rather than spend the whole day worrying about how everything looks. We’ll make space for the photos you want while leaving room for the moments that happen naturally.
If you’re planning a courthouse wedding in Baltimore or the surrounding Maryland or DMV area, I’d love to hear what you’re dreaming up!
