Choosing your wedding photographer is about so much more than finding someone whose Instagram you love.

Your photographer will be with you through some of the most meaningful, emotional, and fast-moving parts of your wedding day. You want someone whose work you love, but also someone whose personality, communication style, and approach make you feel comfortable.

So, before you officially book, here are 10 questions I recommend asking your wedding photographer.

1. What is your photography style?

Every photographer approaches a wedding differently. Some focus heavily on posed and editorial images, while others take a more documentary approach. Ask yourself what you want your gallery to feel like.

2. How do you approach posing and directing couples?

If you’re nervous about being in front of the camera, ask how your photographer works with couples who aren’t naturally comfortable posing.

You shouldn’t have to figure out what to do with your hands or where to look on your own!

I use simple prompts and gentle direction throughout the day while giving you room to interact naturally. My goal is never to make you feel like you’re performing for the camera. 3. How much wedding-day coverage do we need?

More hours don’t necessarily mean better photos. The right amount of coverage depends on what you want documented.

Do you want getting-ready photos? A first look? Cocktail hour? The full reception? Just the major events? Think about which parts of your day you’ll want to remember and build your coverage around those priorities.

If you’re unsure, this is something your photographer should be able to help you figure out. I work with couples to create a timeline that gives us enough time for the photos they care about without making the entire day revolve around photography. 4. What is included in your wedding photography package?

Make sure you understand exactly what you’re paying for.

Ask about:

• Number of hours of coverage
• Number of photographers
• Estimated number of edited images
• Albums, USBs, or other physical products
• Online gallery delivery
• Travel fees
• Sneak peeks
• Additional coverage or add-ons

Packages can look very different from photographer to photographer, so comparing the total experience—not just the price—is important.

5. Will you help us build our wedding-day timeline?

Your photographer should know how long different portions of the day typically take and be able to help you create a realistic timeline.

At LT Photography, I’ll keep an open line of communication with you so I can stay in the loop of any updates or ideas you may have. About a month before the wedding, I’ll send a questionnaire about your plans and photography priorities. We’ll then go over everything together so we can finalize your coverage and timeline.

6. Can we see a full wedding gallery?

This is one of the best questions you can ask.

A website or Instagram is a great place to get a feel for a photographer’s style, but you’re usually seeing their absolute favorite images. Ask to see a full wedding gallery so you can understand what their work looks like from beginning to end.

Look at the getting-ready photos, family portraits, ceremony, reception, low-light images, candid moments, and everything in between. You want to know that your photographer can tell the whole story, not just create a few beautiful hero shots.

7. What happens if our wedding day doesn’t go exactly according to plan?

Because it probably won’t—and that’s completely okay!

Ask how your photographer handles delays, weather changes, difficult lighting, timeline changes, or unexpected moments throughout the day. A good photographer should be able to adapt without making you feel stressed about every little change.

My approach is to stay flexible and respond to what’s happening around me. Your wedding day is about you, not about following a perfectly timed photoshoot. I’ll make sure you get amazing images regardless of how the day plays out. Let me worry about capturing the day and you enjoy experiencing it!

8. What is your turnaround time?

Make sure you know when you can expect your gallery. This is probably the most frustrating part of your wedding photography experience. No one wants to wait months to see the amazing photos of their big day.

At LT Photography, couples receive sneak peeks within 24 hours (oftentimes sooner!) with the full gallery delivered within the contracted 2-week to 1-month timeframe depending on the package.

I know how hard it is to wait for your photos, so I love getting those first images into your hands as quickly as possible!

9. What happens after we book?

Understanding the process after you book can make the entire experience feel much less overwhelming.

Ask what communication will look like between booking and your wedding day. Will you receive a questionnaire? Will you have a planning call? When will you create your timeline? Who can you contact with questions?

At LT Photography, booking is just the beginning. I stay in touch throughout the process, help with timelines, and make sure we have a clear understanding of what you want before your wedding day arrives. I know this part can be a bit overwhelming but I’m here to help. I’ll also walk you through contracts and the payment plans I offer. My goal is to make this process as stress-free and easy as possible.

10. Do we feel comfortable with this photographer?

This might be the most important part. This question is a little less about photography and more about how you feel around the person who will be there on your wedding day.

Your photographer will be around for some of the most personal parts of the day: the excitement while you’re getting ready, the happy tears, the nerves before walking down the aisle, the hugs with your family, and the moments when you finally get a quiet second alone with your new spouse. You want someone you genuinely feel comfortable having there through all of it.

Do you feel like you can relax around them? Do you like their personality? Do you feel like they listen to what matters to you?

You don’t necessarily need to feel like you’ve found your new best friend. You just want to feel comfortable, understood, and confident that you’re in good hands.

That’s something I really value with my couples. I want you to feel comfortable enough to forget about the camera, enjoy your people, and let the day unfold naturally.
