There’s just something about fall photos.
Maybe it’s the changing leaves, the cozy layers, or that soft golden light that makes everything feel a little more magical. Whatever it is, fall has a way of making an already-gorgeous season of life feel even more beautiful in photographs.
And with fall just around the corner, it’s the perfect time to start thinking about your next photography session!
Whether you’re celebrating a new engagement, updating your family photos, announcing a pregnancy, or simply want to capture this season of life, there are so many ways to make the most of fall. Here are six photography sessions that are especially perfect for the season.

You don’t need a ring or a special occasion to get in front of the camera with your favorite person.
Fall is such a beautiful time for a couples session. Think cozy sweaters, colorful trees, golden-hour walks, and all those little in-between moments that make your relationship yours.
Instead of worrying about posing perfectly, we can focus on simply spending time together. Grab a coffee, take a walk, explore a favorite spot, or just enjoy being together while I capture the moments naturally. Or, if you prefer a little more direction, we can take a more guided approach! I’ll help with posing, give you prompts and direction throughout the session, and make sure you feel comfortable in front of the camera while still keeping everything relaxed and natural.

If you’re recently engaged, fall is an especially gorgeous time to celebrate this new chapter with an engagement session.
An engagement session gives you the chance to document this season before the wedding day arrives, while also getting comfortable in front of the camera. By the time your wedding day rolls around, you’ll already have a pretty good idea of what to expect!
And of course, fall gives us the dreamiest backdrop with colorful leaves and warm light, not to mention the cozy outfits, and your favorite person. It’s a pretty great combination. You can also make your session personal to your relationship. Choose a location that means something to you: a favorite spot, where you first met, or maybe you want to spend the afternoon exploring a new place together. Up to you!

If you’ve been meaning to update those family photos, consider this your sign.
Fall is one of my favorite seasons for family sessions because there are so many natural opportunities for movement and interaction. Kids can run through the leaves, siblings can play together, and everyone can snuggle up without worrying about standing perfectly still and smiling at the camera.
And let’s talk about the outfits. Fall gives you so many options for layering and adding texture without everyone having to wear the exact same thing. Sweaters, denim, boots, jackets, and warm neutrals all photograph beautifully against the colors of the season. The result? Photos that feel warm, genuine, and like your family.

Even though you might not be graduating until spring, fall is the perfect time for senior photos!
Whether you’re looking for something classic and timeless or a little more fun and editorial, an outdoor fall session gives us so much to work with. We can explore different locations, switch up outfits, and capture a mix of polished portraits and candid moments. Your senior photos should feel like you at this exact point in your life, and fall gives us the perfect backdrop to make that happen.
Plus, who doesn’t love an excuse to get dressed up and take photos surrounded by beautiful fall colors?

There’s something extra special about maternity photos in the fall.
Flowy dresses against golden fields, cozy layers, colorful trees, and that soft afternoon light make for such beautiful images. Fall weather can also make an outdoor session a little more comfortable than those hot summer days, which is always a bonus!
But more than anything, a maternity session is about documenting this season of life. Whether you want your photos to feel elegant and romantic, cozy and intimate, or completely natural, we can create a session that feels personal to you and your growing family.

And of course, we can’t talk about fall photography without talking about mini sessions!
Mini sessions are perfect if you want a handful of beautiful seasonal photos without committing to a full-length session. They’re especially great for families, couples, little ones, or anyone who simply wants to document this season.
They’re also a fun way to create a tradition. Imagine coming back every fall and watching your family grow and change through a collection of seasonal photos. Those are the kinds of images you’ll love looking back on years from now.
One of my favorite things about fall sessions is that your wardrobe can become part of the story.
Think layers, textures, and colors that complement the season. Creams, browns, soft greens, rust, burgundy, denim, and other warm neutrals can all look beautiful against fall scenery.
And you don’t have to match! In fact, I usually recommend coordinating rather than putting everyone in the exact same outfit. Choose a few colors that work well together, then mix in various different textures, patterns, and layers to keep everything feeling effortless and cohesive. And a pair of boots, jacket, or meaningful accessory can be a great way to add some personality to your photos!
One of the biggest reasons I love fall sessions is the light.
As the days get shorter, golden hour comes a little earlier, giving us that beautiful warm glow without requiring a super-late evening session. Combine that soft light with colorful leaves and you’ve got a pretty dreamy setting. When planning your session, we’ll want to think about the time of day and location so we can make the most of that gorgeous fall light.
As much as I wish we could keep fall around all year, those colorful leaves won’t stick around forever. If you’re hoping to capture peak fall colors, it’s a good idea to start planning your session.
Whether you’re celebrating a new engagement, documenting your growing family, getting ready to graduate, or simply want to remember this season of life, fall is the perfect excuse to get in front of the camera.
So grab your favorite people, pull out those cozy sweaters, and let’s make some magic out of the season. Because sometimes, you don’t need a big reason to take photos. Any season of life is worth documenting and I would love to help you capture this one. Let’s Talk!
